Soccer Merger Establishes BOREAL FC – Run the North

Three Rivers Soccer Association and North Metro Soccer Association, after two years of partnership, announce they have entered into a merger to establish a prominent youth soccer organization in Minnesota and will operate under the new name BOREAL Futbol Club, BFC or BOREAL (pronounced baw-ree-uhl). This exciting new journey will begin Fall 2020. BOREAL FC will operate a comprehensive competitive program as well as two community-based recreational programs. Youth soccer in the midwest is adapting to the ever-changing soccer landscape and BOREAL FC will have a stronger base for player development and the competitive capacity to provide the very best for families at every level. BOREAL will have the opportunity to invest in families across both communities by combining and expanding its vast coaching staff. 

Boreal FC is the result of collective efforts by two prominent clubs who pooled their resources to create the best possible experience for all players in the northern suburbs of Minneapolis. Committed to developing players of all ages and levels, we strive to ensure our players have fun while learning both the technical and tactical elements of the game, as well as sportsmanship. We believe in creating a competitive environment for all of our players, as we push our teams to compete to their maximum potential. Boreal FC provides both competitive and recreational pathways for our players. Our competitive program offers multiple levels of play, with the elite level focused on competing across the region and nationally. Our recreational program is designed to allow players to play within their community during two seasonally based programs.

The mission of Boreal FC is to develop each player to their full potential, build unified teams, and enhance the community through soccer.

BOREAL: Northern or coming from the North. In Greek mythology, Boreas was the god of the north wind, bringer of winter. Boreal is ruled by Boreas Rex (ala St. Paul Winter Carnival). Also related to Aurora Borealis, northern lights.

Football/Futbol: In almost every country around the world, “football” is the most popular sport. It is only referred to as “soccer” in the United States and somewhat in Australia.

Club: An organization dedicated to a particular interest.

Symbolism: The “o” in Boreal FC is fashioned as the Viking rune “Othila” [pronounced oh-THEE-law] which was used to signify ownership of, the domain of, or principality of; a sphere of influence.
